INFRASTRUCTURAL AND FACILITY NEEDS OF THE UNIVERSITY
- A 2000-Capacity Auditorium Building
The University needs a befitting and purpose-built modern auditorium that can sit up to 2,000 guests to enable her host such major events as convocation. The university currently hosts her convocation in a refectory which is far from befitting.
- Completion of the Maryam Babangida Auditorium Building
The completion of this building whose construction was abandoned close to 20 years ago would help the university overcome some of the problems of space she currently faces.
- Completion of the Postgraduate School Building
The Postgraduate school of the university currently operates from a small building which is both inadequate and unbefitting of Nigeria’s first indigenous university. An attempt by the university to build a new and befitting building has been abandoned due to the inadequacy of funds. The completion of this building is a top priority for the university.
- An ultra – modern one-story building for the University Advancement Centre and Centre for Business Development
The University urgently needs the support of donors to provide office accommodation for staff of the University Advancement Centre and Centre for Business Development.
- Three faculty buildings to provide classrooms and staff offices
Three new faculty buildings are urgently needed to accommodate both students and staff whose numbers have increased astronomically in recent times.
- Ultra-modern Students’ Hostels
The university is in dire need of new hostel buildings too enable her provide on-campus accommodations for more students. The university seeks kind spirited individuals or organizations who can make outright donations of hostel buildings or enter into a Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement with the university
- * Alternative Power Supply Project for the University
Power has remained a “yet to be surmounted” problem in our University. The University spends over six months of her overhead cost allocation to buy diesel in one month leaving her with nothing to meet her other overhead needs.
- Interactive Smart Boards:
About 50 of these modern teaching facilities are needed to improve teaching and learning in the campuses of the university.
- Laboratory Equipment
The university needs a wide variety of modern laboratory equipment for teaching research.
- Rehabilitation of Campus Roads
A number of roads within the campuses of the university are overdue for rehabilitation to facilitate movement within the campuses.
- Building of new staff residences
The university is seeking the support of developers and donors to enable her overcome the housing deficit currently experienced on campus. Developers who would want to enter into a Build Operate and Transfer relationship with the university are encouraged to come forward.
- Sinking of additional boreholes at the Nsukka campus of the University
The University requires at least 10 new boreholes to meet the water needs of staff and students at Nsukka campus.
- Rehabilitation of the University sewage system
The University sewage system is in need of urgent rehabilitation to enable her cope with the pressure of wastes from students and staff.
- Rehabilitation of students’ hostels
A number of student hostels require urgent rehabilitation to preserve them and make them worth living in. The whole Zik’s Flats Hostels have been abandoned and some blocks in the Franco Hostels are under threat
- Fire-fighting Trucks
These are required in case of emergency. The closest fire service station opposite the campus and which is owned by the state government oftentimes is bedeviled by civil service bureaucracy to the extent that it is stifled from responding to distress calls. The University has had series of avoidable fire incidences razing down hostels and other buildings because of non – response to emergency.
- Waste Disposal Trucks
These trucks are needed for an independent waste disposal system because the current arrangement which relies on the state government for the evacuation of our wastes does not meet the frequency desired by the university.
